How to Apply

To make an application to the Australian International Design Awards, follow the steps below. To make a student application, visit the student website.

1. Check your product's eligibility
2. Review application fee and payment terms
3. Agree to conditions of entry
4. Preview application form
5. Prepare your images

6. Make an online application

Once you have completed steps 1 to 5, you may begin your online application. You will be asked to establish a user account which can be applied to multiple entries if applicable. Keep your login details in a safe place to allow you to revise the application form at any stage prior to final submission. Your login details may also be provided to colleagues for their input and to gain the relevant company approvals prior to making your final submission. Please note however that once you have made your final submission, you will no longer be able to revise your application form.

1. Check your product's eligibility

Entries must comply with the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Entry is open to all professionally designed products available for sale in Australia including products available for delivery to Australia through online retail outlets.
  • Products professionally designed by Australians for overseas markets are also eligible to enter.
  • The entry must be a manufactured product in full commercial production by the time of final round assessment. Product samples provided for assessment must be in full commercial packaging and complete with accompanying documentation such as user manuals and warranties.
  • Prototypes, off-tool samples or products still undergoing trials are not eligible to enter.
  • Therapeutic goods available for sale in Australia that have not gained TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) approval are not eligible to enter.
  • The entry must be a complete product, not part thereof. Products sold within a range (ie: not for individual sale) are not eligible to enter on their own. The full range must be provided for assessment.
  • A system or component of a product is not eligible to enter on its own unless it is sold separately.
  • The entry must comply with all applicable Australian and International Standards for the intended marketplace. All entries must be accompanied with evidence of Standards compliance where applicable.

    2. Review application fee and payment terms

  • A registration and assessment fee is payable for each entry into the Australian International Design Awards if deemed eligible. 2011 fees are soon to be published here.
  • Application to the student category is free of charge. To make a student application, visit the visit the student website.
  • Industry applicants will be asked for valid credit card details to complete the payment. Payments using VISA or Mastercard will incur an additional bank charge of 1.5%. Payments using American Express or Diners Club will incur an additional bank charge of 5.65%.
  • A tax invoice will be sent to each applicant shortly after their application has been lodged.
  • In the event that your entry is shortlisted for further assessment, freight costs, duties and taxes associated with the transportation of any submission material to and from the assessment site are the responsibility of the applicant.
  • Additional costs associated with the assessment of a particular entry as advised by the Australian International Design Awards, including off-site or interstate assessment, are the full responsibility of the applicant. The applicant must agree to cover any associated costs such as transfers or interstate travel of a selection of judges prior to application. Please contact the Australian International Design Awards prior to application to see if your entry falls into this category.

    3. Agree to conditions of entry

  • The Australian International Design Awards reserves the right to refuse entry of products that do not comply with all applicable entry criteria, or that challenge or put into question the reputation of the Australian International Design Awards. This decision is at the sole discretion of the Australian International Design Awards and no correspondence will be entered into. A full refund will be granted should entry be refused.
  • Entries that no longer meet the eligibility criteria following application such as a failure to meet production deadlines must be withdrawn and may be resubmitted the following year only. The original application fee will be credited toward this resubmission but regrettably cannot be refunded.
  • Information supplied within or in relation to the application must be real, correct and complete. Please note that all personal or sensitive information will be treated as confidential and used in accordance with the Australian International Design Awards Privacy Policy.
  • Product claims such as "unique", "world first", "one of a kind" or "owned by" the applicant must be substantiated. The Australian International Design Awards reserves the right to request further evidence such as records of all applicable patents, trademarks, design registrations or IP ownership.
  • The Australian International Design Awards reserves the right to conduct further periodic trials or request substantiation of product claims including safety and standards compliance. Should a product no longer warrant the right to carry the Australian International Design Award™ or Australian International Design Mark™ during its lifecycle, these accolades may be revoked at any time if the reputation of the Australian International Design Awards is put into question.
  • The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • All submission material and accompanying documentation must be clearly written in the English language.
  • The product and accompanying documentation including images must be made available for use by the Australian International Design Awards for the ongoing promotion of design in and outside Australia. Please note that images might be supplied to the Australian and international media for publication to further promote the entry and the Australian International Design Awards.
  • Product samples might undergo internal inspections or tests and might therefore be dismantled. Every effort will be made to rebuild product samples to their original state prior to return however the Australian International Design Awards accepts no responsibility for failure to do so.
  • Products might be transported by the Australian International Design Awards. Every effort will be made to ensure the security of products and other materials submitted by the applicant (submission material) during assessment and exhibition. Please be aware that the Australian International Design Awards, its employees and contractors accept no responsibility for any damage or loss caused to any submission material during transportation, handling or storage and that packaging, transportation and insurance of any submission material is the responsibility of the applicant. Due to the highly fragile nature of some submission material, please be aware that damage or loss might occur. Insurance to cover damage or loss should be considered if the value of the item is considerable.
  • Submission material is "on loan" by the Australian International Design Awards for the period between the submission due date to the Awards Presentation Night inclusive. It is the responsibility of the applicant to arrange for collection of all submission material following this period should they require. Otherwise all material will be retained by the Australian International Design Awards to do with what they deem fit, such as use in future exhibitions and promotional opportunities.
  • By submitting an application to the Australian International Design Awards, the applicant is agreeing to the abovementioned terms and conditions of entry.

    4. Preview application form

    Download the application questions and submission requirements for your information.

    5. Prepare Images

    Prepare four high quality JPEG images of your product at:

  • 600 x 600 pixels in dimension
  • min. 72 dpi in resolution
  • RGB in colour mode
  • no bigger than 1MB in file size

    Have these images ready in a folder to electronically attach to the application form where required.

    6. Make an online application

    Enter the online application form below and follow the prompts. You will be asked to establish a user account which can be applied to multiple entries if applicable. Keep your login details in a safe place to allow you to revise the application form at any stage prior to final submission. Your login details may also be provided to colleagues for their input and to gain the relevant company approvals prior to making your final submission. Please note however that once you have made your final submission, you will no longer be able to revise your application form.
