Product Description and Principal Function(s)

Ford Territory is an all-new vehicle that challenges the traditional passenger vehicle boundaries to adapt to the changing needs of Australian motorists. With car-like styling and handling, up to seven seats and an ingenious interior, Territory is a Crossover vehicle that provides the ultimate flexibility for Australian motorists seeking the best characteristics of family sedans, all-terrain wagons and people movers at an attainable price.

Key Product Features and Benefits

Background
Extensive market research has established a growing need for a vehicle combining the best characteristics of family sedans, all-terrain wagons and people movers. Large car buyers enjoy their car’s performance and handling, but wish it were more adaptive to their lifestyle. 4WD owners love its versatility and command driving position but want car-like handling, better fuel economy and lower upfront and operating costs. Drivers of people movers find their car very practical, but hate being “the bus driver”.

Available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive with 5 or 7 seats, and equally at home in urban or outdoor environments, Territory fills an unmet need among Australian buyers. A contemporary crossover vehicle designed with customers needs in mind, Territory incorporates new levels of flexibility, functionality and performance in a locally designed and manufactured vehicle.

Design
Projecting a lean, muscular image of latent strength, Territory is like a runner on the blocks; its strong stance and inert poise lend no misconception as to which way it will move. Territory's youthful, energetic design will appeal to those enjoying an active lifestyle.

On the inside Territory provides a command driving position with wrap around controls that are angled slightly towards the driver and a strong tunnel that blends into the dashboard, giving the driver a feeling of control and separating but not excluding passengers.
The interior is modern, fresh and energetic; replicating the modern sport shoe, with different materials, textures and hints of colour juxtaposed to create a dynamic ambience.

Innovation and Function
Territory oozes innovation, such as:
- More than thirty storage areas per vehicle,
- Reversible rear load floor that doubles as a wet or dry storage area on 5-seater,
- Cargo-shelf on high series,
- Removable and dishwasher safe console rubbish bin,
- Out of sight and lockable storage bin beneath the driver's seat,
- Handbag/wine bottle stowage area at the side of front seats,
- Kleenex travel pack tissue box holder,
- First 17" styled steel wheels on an Australian designed vehicle,
- Vast range of unique accessories such as DVD entertainment system, fridges and extendable carry bars.

Attention to detail coupled with simple, yet extensive functionality has created a vehicle that perfectly complements the diverse requirements of its owner. This includes:
- Capacity for seven adults to travel in comfort,
- Command driving position for visibility and control,
- Innovative 'theatre style' seating for enhanced second and third row visibility,
- Fully foldable second and third row seats for a long, flat load space, even with the headrests still in the seats – long enough to sleep two people,
- Option of adjustable second row for 100mm extra legroom or further cargo carrying flexibility,
- Cradle mounted spare wheel that's accessible when the vehicle is loaded.

Territory's design is intelligent and intuitive, with:
- Car-like ride, handling and steering delivered through the all-new Virtual Pivot Control Link front suspension, first on an Australian designed vehicle, together with the 2002 SAE-A Silver Award winning BA Falcon control blade IRS,
- First AWD Dynamic Stability Control system on an Australian designed vehicle maintains stability when the vehicle approaches its physical limits, through braking system/powertrain intervention,
- Descent control system, available on AWD, regulates the speed at which the vehicle travels downhill, particularly in steep or difficult off-road conditions,
- Specially formulated "silica" tyres provide improved wet road handling and fuel economy,
- Adaptive automatic transmission "learns" the driving style of the driver and adapts shift speeds accordingly,
- Sequential sports shift gives drivers the choice of manual or automatic gear selection,
- Reverse sensing system on high series.
