Assessment Process

1. First Round Shortlisting

All entries submitted to the Australian International Design Awards undergo First Round Shortlisting. During this  stage, a large panel  of industry experts is invited to shortlist entries based on their individual design merits using the official assessment criteria as a common measure. Approximately 30% of the lowest ranked entries will not make the First Round Shortlist.

Applicants are notified of the results and those that make it to the First Round Shortlist proceed to the Final Round Assessments. Results of this stage are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

2. Final Round Assessments

Applicants that make it to the First Round Shortlist are required to submit a full commercial product sample, print quality images and support material to complete a physical assessment of their entry. This stage involves dedicated panels of local and international experts in the relevant design disciplines. The panels review shortlisted entries and determine a set of finalists and award winners using the official assessment criteria as a common measure.

No formal presentations are required by the applicant, however should the judges wish to direct questions to the applicant during assessment, questions will be posed by conference call or email. All submission material is presented to the panels by the facilitators in a consistent, unbiased manner. Original application material is formatted into a series of standard presentation slides and product samples are set up on a central table for review, testing and dismantling if required.

Applicants are notified whether they have become a finalist, and awards are presented at the annual Awards Presentation Night. Results of this stage are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
